Curtain Call

A few years ago, my cousin Skwirrel came up with the crazy idea to go to a football playoff game in Seattle, Washington. I had never thought about going to a playoff game because I imagined those games were super expensive and all the teams that I liked were really far. But being the huge Seahawks fan that he is, he was able to finagle a few tickets at an affordable price. He told me about it literally on Thursday and before I knew it, I was in a sea of blue Seattle Seahawks jerseys on Saturday afternoon yelling my lungs out for a team I didn’t even really like all that much.

As disinterested as I was in the game on paper, that trip was amazing. First, it was such a joy to experience something so amazing with my cousin, his girlfriend and our mutual friend. Second, it was an NFL playoff game, an experience I’ll never forget.

There were many times where I sat in my seat and thought,  “What the heck am I doing at a SEAHAWKS playoff game?” Regardless of my apathy towards the team, I found myself energized by the atmosphere, thrilled with the quality of football and just amazed at the blessing of being at that game.

My stay in Prince Rupert was a lot like that game in Seattle. There were a few times I asked myself, “what the heck am I doing in Prince Rupert?” But like the Seahawks game, I was energized by the atmosphere and people, thrilled with the quality of life and amazed at the blessing of being in such a beautiful town.

Thank you to all the wonderful friends and new found family that made my stay so memorable, so electric, so blessed. I will never forget you and trust me, even though it’s only been a few days being home, I miss you already: Battle Slugs, Knucklehead Zoo,  T12, Munchkin Nation and all.

Prince Rupert may never be home, but the town will always be a place I have fond memories of, and an experience I wouldn’t trade for the whole world, Seahawks included.
